Franklin Pierce, 25-4

13 Setters score in Northeast-10 victory

RINDGE, N.H. (April 17, 2004) – Pace University, ranked No. 8 in this week’s USILA Division II poll, saw 13 different players score goals in posting a 25-4 victory over Franklin Pierce in Northeast-10 Conference men’s lacrosse action this afternoon.

            Sophomore Mike Dimler (Long Valley, N.J./West Morris Central) led the Pace attack with eight points on three goals and five assists. Sophomore Colin Achenbach (Burnsville, Minn./Apple Valley) totaled seven points on two goals and five assists, while sophomore Jeremy Jablonski (Mastic, N.Y./William Floyd) netted a game-high five goals and dished an assist for six points. Sophomore Tim Paulson (Montrose, N.Y./Hendrick Hudson) chipped in three goals and an assist for four points.

            Junior Nick Mincolla (Cohasset, Mass./Gov. Dummer Academy) led Franklin Pierce with a goal and assist. Senior Jimmy Ward (Lynn, Mass./Lynn Classical), sophomore Nick Cowden (Marblehead, Mass./Marblehead) and freshman Mike Willis (Hingham, Mass./Hingham) all chipped in with markers for the Ravens. Junior Griff Lassiter (Pawtucket, R.I./Mitchell College) dished an assist for the first point of his career.

            Freshman Matt Cloutier (Amherst, N.H./Souhegan) played well in goal for the Ravens, making a season-best 25 saves in 35 minutes of action. Senior Joe Cassano (Medford, N.Y./Patchogue-Medford) and freshman Joe Contardo (Plantsville, Conn./Cheshire) split the match in goal for the Setters and made six saves each.

            Franklin Pierce came out strong and netted the game’s first two goals. Cowden opened the scoring with an unassisted tally 2:58 into the match and Ward netted a man-advantage goal, assisted by Mincolla, with 10:27 left in the first period.

Pace responded with two goals in a 49-second span to knot the score and netted the next eight goals overall to open an 8-2 edge with 13:30 to play in the second period. Junior Charlie Rizzuto (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem) put the Setters on the board at the 6:35 mark, assisted by Achenbach, with a man-advantage. Senior Jim Watson (Seaford, N.Y./Seaford) scored the game-tying goal at 5:44, assisted by Dimler, and Paulson put the Setters up for good with an unassisted tally with 5:13 to play in the opening stanza.

            Franklin Pierce (1-8, 0-5 NE-10) returns to action on Monday when it travels to North Andover, Mass., to face Merrimack College at 3:30 p.m. Pace (6-2, 5-2 NE-10) is off until next Saturday when it visits No. 7 Bentley College at 1 p.m.
