Ward nets seven goals, Mincolla five to lead Ravens

RINDGE, N.H. (April 12, 2004) – Franklin Pierce collected its second-straight home victory dating back to last year’s season finale with an 18-3 triumph over Daniel Webster College in non-conference men’s lacrosse action at the Franklin Pierce Field Hockey/Lacrosse Complex this afternoon.

            The victory was the largest in program history as Franklin Pierce jumped out to a 10-0 lead at the break and held a 12-0 advantage after three quarters of play.

            Senior Jimmy Ward (Lynn, Mass./Lynn Classical) netted a season-high seven goals, while junior Nick Mincolla (Cohasset, Mass./Gov. Dummer Academy) scored five times for Franklin Pierce. Mincolla paced the Ravens in the first half as his five goals all came in the opening 30-minutes. Ward netted four first-half goals.

Freshman Ryan St. Cyr (Manchester, N.H./Trinity) chipped in a season-best four points with two goals and two assists, while senior Dean Patty (East Lyme, Conn./East Lyme) dished four assists. Freshman Mike Willis (Hingham, Mass./Hingham) contributed a goal and two helpers, while sophomore Nick Cowden (Marblehead, Mass./Marblehead) added two markers.

            Freshman goalkeeper Matt Cloutier (Amherst, N.H./Souhegan) nearly notched the shutout, posting six saves over the first 53:45 before yielding a goal with 6:15 left in regulation.

            Junior Matt Pietrowski (Edgewood, Md.) netted two goals for Daniel Webster, while classmate Derek Davidson (Epping, N.H.) scored the Eagles first goal of the afternoon.

            The Ravens jumped on the board 4:05 into the match with Mincolla’s first tally of the day. Ward followed with his first marker just 38-seconds later and Mincolla netted his second 12-seconds after that for a 3-0 Franklin Pierce lead 4:55 into the match.

            Franklin Pierce (1-6, 0-3 NE-10) returns to action on Wednesday when it visits Saint Anselm College at 3:30 p.m. Daniel Webster (1-8) visits Nichols College on Saturday at 1 p.m.
