Catawba Drops Franklin Pierce, 21-2
Indians hold Ravens scoreless in second half

SALISBURY, N.C. (March 16, 2004) – Catawba College jumped out to an 8-2 lead at the half and held Franklin Pierce scoreless over the final 30-minutes and posted a 21-2 victory in non-conference men’s lacrosse action at Shuford Stadium and Kirkland Field this afternoon.

            Catawba used three goals in a 60-second span to open a 5-1 lead after one quarter of play and never looked back. Freshman Kurt Green (San Diego, Calif.) led the Indians with nine points as he totaled four goals and five assists. Sophomore Matt Riley (Baltimore, Md.) added five goals and an assist for the victors.

            Senior Kevin Medeiros (Chelmsford, Mass./Chelmsford) and junior co-captain Nick Mincolla (Cohasset, Mass./Gov. Drummer) accounted for the Franklin Pierce goals.

            Franklin Pierce freshman goalkeeper Matt Cloutier (Amherst, N.H./Souhegan) registered 21 saves in 45 minutes of play. Junior Frank Fish (Damascus, Md.) recorded three saves in posting the win for Catawba.

Franklin Pierce (0-2) is off until Monday, March 22, when it returns north to open Northeast-10 Conference play at Merrimack College at 3:30 p.m. Catawba (3-3) hosts Molloy College on Friday at 3:30 p.m.
