Pierce Captures RINDGE,
N.H. (April 25, 2007) –
Franklin Pierce captured its home Spring Invitational on Wednesday at
the par-71 Shattuck Golf Club.
Franklin Pierce posted a 325 team score to edge Worcester State
College (326) by one stroke, while Elms College placed third (335).
Worcester State sophomore Nick
Lombardi (North Grafton, Mass.)
earned medallist honors at the event as he carded a two-over-par 73 –
the lowest round by an individual since Franklin Pierce has been hosting
events on the tough mountain course at the base of Mount Monadnock.
Lombardi played the back nine at even-par 35. Elms’ Jim
Hurlbut
placed second with a round of 78 (39-39), while Franklin Pierce’s Josh
Lupinek (East Haddam, Conn./Nathan Hale-Ray)
was third with a score of 80 (42-38).
Freshman Peter
Panopoulos (Rindge, N.H./Jaffrey)
placed fourth overall for the Ravens with a round of 81. Junior Kevin
Rossi (Kingston, N.Y./Kingston)
and freshman Brandon
Weiner (Marlboro, N.J./Marlboro)
each posted an 82 to finish in a tie for sixth overall. Franklin Pierce is back on the links on Friday when it participates in the Elms College Blazer Invitational, at Chicopee Country Club in Massachusetts. Team Results
