Franklin Pierce Places Second 
at WPI Shootout
Smith cards 82 for third-place finish

HOLDEN HILLS, Mass.  (May 5, 2004) – The Franklin Pierce men’s golf team rounded out its 2004 spring season with a second-place finish at the WPI Shootout at Holden Hills Country Club this afternoon.

            The Ravens posted a 359 team score to finish behind host Worcester Polytechnic Institute who won its home event with a 341 team score. WPI’s B-team took third place with a 361 team score, followed by Mass College of Liberal Arts (371) and Connecticut College (403).

            WPI teammates Chris Drost and Dave Velardo were co-medallists as they each carded low rounds of 81. Franklin Pierce senior Mike Smith (Hanover, Mass./Hanover) finished just one shot off the pace as his 82 was good for a third-place finish.

            Senior Jon Butler (Cheshire, Mass./Hoosac) carded an 89 for the Ravens, while junior Nick Matulonis (Springfield, Vt./Springfield) posted a score of 90. Senior Chris DeGeorge (Southbury, Conn./Pomperaug) finished with a 92.
