Junior Jimmie Hunt recorded a game-high 19 points to go along with five rebounds

Le Moyne Shoots by Franklin Pierce, 79-58
68.2-percent shooting over final 20 minutes burns Ravens

RINDGE, N.H. (December 9, 2002) - Le Moyne College shot 68.2-percent (15-22) from the field to erase a one-point halftime deficit and post a commanding 79-58 victory over Franklin Pierce in Northeast-10 Conference men’s basketball action at the Franklin Pierce Fieldhouse tonight.

The hot second-half shooting resulted in 50 points in the stanza as Le Moyne posted its first ever win over Franklin Pierce at the Franklin Pierce Fieldhouse dating back to the two schools days in the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC). The Ravens held a 30-29 halftime lead, but while the Dolphins were hitting their shots, the Ravens hit just 35.5% (11-31) in the closing half.

Franklin Pierce held a seven-point lead (30-23) after a jumper from freshman Justin Powell (Brookline, Mass./Brookline) with 3:08 to play in the first half, but Le Moyne answered with a 6-0 run to close the stanza and a pair of free-throws by junior Jason Coleman put the Dolphins up for good 1:34 into the second half.

The Le Moyne lead grew to double-digits at the 11:19-mark after a lay-in by junior Brett Barnard. The Dolphins held the Ravens to just four points over the final 4:11 to ice the victory.

Senior Flagan Prince hit all six of his attempts from the field, including one three pointer, to go along with a five-for-six effort at the line for a team-high 18 points in addition to a game-high nine rebounds (five offensive), four assists, three blocks and two steals.

Le Moyne dominated the glass, clearing 45 rebounds compared to 30 for Franklin Pierce.

Coleman finished with 17 points and two steals, while junior Rob Thorpe added 13 points, six boards and five assists.

Junior Jimmie Hunt (Utica, N.Y./Mount Ararat (Maine)) led Franklin Pierce with a game-high 19 points to go along with five rebounds. Senior Tom Waterman (Bangor, Maine/Bangor) chipped in ten points and three steals, while classmate Zvonko Ilic (Nis, Yugoslavia) snared a team-best five rebounds and dished four assists.

Franklin Pierce (1-6, 1-4 NE-10) returns to action on Thursday, December 19, when it travels Boca Raton, Fla., for the Palm Beach Hoop Classic and faces host Lynn University at 7 p.m. Le Moyne (5-1, 3-1 NE-10) hosts Assumption College on December 19 at 7:30 p.m.
