Alderson-Broaddus Keeps Franklin Pierce Winless, 68-60 SALEM, W.V. (November 29, 2002) - Alderson-Broaddus College erased a halftime lead to post a 68-60 victory over the Franklin Pierce men's basketball team in day one action of the Joe Manchin Classic, hosted by Salem International University, tonight. Franklin Pierce held a 29-26 halftime advantage, but Alderson-Broaddus used a 13-0 run over a seven-minute span in early in the second half to take the lead for good. The Ravens closed the gap to five in the final minute, but could get no closer. Junior Jimmie Hunt (Utica, N.Y./Mount Ararat (Maine)) led Franklin Pierce with 13 points on 5-16 shooting from the field, while classmate Derek Rodgerson (Newburgh, Maine/Hampden Academy) added 12 points on just 5-17 shooting to go along with three rebounds and three steals. Senior Allister Gall (Plymouth, England) also netted 12 points, while freshman Justin Powell (Brookline, Mass./Brookline) grabbed a season-high nine rebounds to go along with six points. The Ravens were hampered by a 37.7-percent (23-61) shooting effort for the night, including 37.5% (12-32) in the second half. Alderson-Broaddus shot 43.1% (22-51) for the night. Franklin Pierce (0-3, 0-2 NE-10) returns to action tomorrow night when it faces host Salem International, ranked No. 4 in the Division II Bulletin Preseason poll, at 8 p.m. |
