Drops an 86-79 Decision to Bentley WALTHAM, MASS. (December 4, 2002) - The Franklin Pierce men's basketball suffered its fifth-straight loss, falling to Bentley College, 86-79, in Northeast-10 Conference men's basketball action at the Dana Center this evening. Bentley senior Jeff Bishop led the Falcons with 21 points. Junior Pat Lynch followed with a career-best 17 points and 13 assists, while senior Andy Erickson chipped in eight points to go along with a team-high eight rebounds. Junior Derek Rodgerson (Newburgh, Maine/Hampden Academy) recorded a career-high 21 points and six rebounds to lead the Ravens. Freshman Justin Powell (Brookline, Mass./Brookline) added 14 points and five rebounds. The Ravens led 41-32 heading into the break, thanks to a 15-3 run in the first half. The Falcons came out shooting in the second half, however, hitting eight of its first nine shots to spark a 21-7 run. The scoring spree would allow Bentley to pull ahead 53-50 midway though the half. Consecutive baskets by Powell, junior Jimmie Hunt (Utica, N.Y./Mount Ararat (Maine)) and senior Tom Waterman (Bangor, Maine/Bangor) helped Franklin Pierce cut Bentley's lead 80-76 with 2:27 left in regulation, but the Falcons went on to score five unanswered baskets to extend the lead to nine points to pull away from the Ravens. Franklin Pierce (0-5, 0-3 NE-10) returns to action on Saturday, when it hosts Merrimack College in a Northeast-10 Conference matchup at the Winchendon School Gymnasium at 6 p.m. Bentley (3-2, 2-1 NE-10) returns to the court on Saturday, when it travels to UMass Lowell for a League contest at 4 p.m. |
