Shoots Past Stonehill, 69-61
Ravens erase three-point halftime deficit with 72.2-percent
shooting in second half
RINDGE, N.H. (February
9, 2002) - Franklin Pierce University
erased a three-point
halftime deficit as it shot 72.2-percent (13-18) from the
field in the second half to post a 69-61 victory over Stonehill
College in Northeast-10 Conference men’s basketball action
at the FP
Fieldhouse this afternoon.
Franklin Pierce used
a 13-4 run, capped by a three-pointer from senior Zvonko
Ilic (Niz, Yugoslavia/K.K. Student), to take the
lead for good (47-41) with 13:36 to play in regulation.
FP
bumped its lead
to eight points (55-47) after a Tom Waterman (Bangor,
Maine/Bangor) layup with 8:34 to go, but Stonehill
trimmed the lead to one with an 8-1 clip over the next 2:30.
Sophomore Edmund Turkson (Bronx, N.Y./Salesian) capped the
run with a layup with the shot clock winding down at the
5:37 mark.
However, the Ravens
built the lead back to six points after sophomore Jimmie
Hunt (Utica, N.Y./Mount Ararat (Maine)) drained
three-of-four free throw attempts in their next two offensive
possessions.
Stonehill wouldn’t
go away as back-to-back layups by freshmen Brodie Haer and
Dezmond Morgan cut the lead to two (61-59) with 95-seconds
on the clock.
However, after a Hunt
three-pointer, FP
sealed the win by hitting five-of-six
from the line in the final minute.

senior Kevin
Scott (Mississauga, Ontario/Iona Catholic) was unstoppable
underneath as he posted his tenth double-double of the season
with 18 points, on 8-11 shooting from the floor, 12 rebounds
(five offensive) and three assists.
Sophomore Derek
Rodgerson (Newburgh, Maine/Hampden Academy) totaled
15 points, on 5-8 shooting from the floor (2-4 three’s),
while Hunt finished with 11 points.
Morgan led Stonehill
with 17 points, aided by a 3-4 effort from long-distance,
five rebounds and four assists. Turkson chipped in ten points
for the Chieftains.

NE-10) travels to North Andover, Mass., on Tuesday to face
Merrimack College at 7:30 p.m. Stonehill (4-18, 2-16 NE-10)
hosts Southern New Hampshire University on Wednesday at
7:30 p.m.
