sophomore Derek
Rodgerson (Newburgh, Maine/Hampden Academy) was
named the Northeast-10 Conference men’s basketball Player
of the Week this afternoon.
Rodgerson earned Tournament
MVP honors at the Clarion University KFC/Subway Classic
over the weekend as he led the Ravens to a pair of wins
over Preseason Top-25 teams to capture the Tournament Championship.
The guard averaged 21.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists
and 2.0 steals per game and shot a blistering 65-percent
(13-20) from the field, including 75% (6-8) from three-point
range, in the two games.
Rodgerson led FP
to an 86-73 win over host and No. 18 Clarion in Saturday’s
Championship tilt as he netted a game-high 25 points on
six-of-nine shooting from the floor (3-4 three’s) and 10-13
from the free-throw line. He also added three assists and
two steals against the Golden Eagles.
In Friday night’s
season-opening 86-77 win over No. 13 Longwood University,
Rodgerson drained 7-11 from the field (3-4 three’s) for
18 points to go along with five rebounds, two assists and
two steals.
Franklin Pierce (2-0)
returns to action on Tuesday night, when it opens its Conference
schedule at The College of Saint Rose (0-0) in Albany, N.Y.,
at 7:45 p.m.
