Kwity leads six Ravens in double-figures
with 22 points

5, 2002) - Junior swingman V.J. Kwity (Torrance,
Calif./West) led six Franklin Pierce University
players
in double-figures with a season-high 22 points to lead the
Ravens to an 82-76 victory over Le Moyne College in Northeast-10
Conference men’s basketball action at the FP
Fieldhouse
this afternoon.
FP
used an 11-1 run
over the first 2:55 of the second half to break a 35-35
deadlock at the intermission. Kwity
and sophomore Derek Rodgerson (Newburgh, Maine/Newburgh)
sparked the run with five and four points, respectively.
After Le Moyne closed
the gap to five points (51-46) with 14:52 on the clock, FP
took its largest lead of the game with a 14-point advantage
(65-51) at the 10:16 mark. Senior Alfonso Payne (Boston,
Mass./Boston Latin Academy) sparked the 9-0 run
with five points and an assist.
Le Moyne clawed back
into the game, trimming the Ravens lead to three points
(73-70) after a three-pointer from sophomore Rob Thorpe
with 2:12 to play.
However, Payne answered
with a three-pointer and FP
canned six-of-six from the
free-throw line in the final minute to seal the win.
Kwity connected on
his first five shots from the field and finished shooting
7-10 from the field overall, including 2-3 from three-point
range, and drained all six free-throw attempts. He also
added four rebounds and two steals.
Senior Kevin
Scott (Mississauga, Ontario/Iona Catholic) recorded
his third-straight double-double, finishing with 14 points,
a game-high 13 rebounds and four blocks. Payne added 12
points on 4-6 shooting (2-3 three’s) in just 14 minutes
of action, while senior Zvonko Ilic (Nis, Yugoslavia/K.K.
Student) totaled ten points, seven boards and a
career-best six steals. Junior Tom Waterman (Bangor,
Maine/Bangor) added 11 points and six assists, while
Rodgerson finished with ten points.
The Ravens shot 52.6-percent
(30-57) from the field, including a 56% (14-25) effort in
the first half. FP
also canned 15-16 (93.8%) from the free-throw
line for the day.
Sophomore Chris Henry
led Le Moyne with a career-high 25 points as he drilled
6-8 from three-point range. Classmate Jason Coleman added
15 points, seven rebounds and six assists, while Thorpe
chipped in 13 points, hitting 3-4 three’s, four assists
and two steals.

wraps up a three-game homestand on Tuesday when it hosts
Saint Michael’s College at 7:30 p.m. Le Moyne (6-5, 3-5
NE-10) hosts Southern New Hampshire University on Monday
