Outlasts Saint Rose, 75-69 in OT
Kwity and Scott post double-doubles
to lead Ravens
RINDGE, N.H. (December
8, 2001) - Franklin Pierce University
outscored The College
of Saint Rose, 12-6 in overtime, to post a 75-69 win in
Northeast-10 Conference men's basketball action at the FP
Fieldhouse this afternoon. The win avenged a last-second
loss to the Golden Knights (87-85) two weeks ago in Albany,
N.Y.
Saint Rose rallied
from a nine-point deficit with 7:55 to play with an 11-0
run, knotting the score at 59-59 with 2:50 to play. Junior
guard Dwayne Beckford sparked the rally with six points
for Saint Rose.
Sophomore Jimmie
Hunt (Utica, N.Y./Mount Ararat (Maine)) put FP
back ahead, 63-61, but Saint Rose knotted the score on a
Jesse Cort lay-up with 22-seconds on the clock.
After a Ravens timeout,
junior Tom Waterman (Bangor, Maine/Bangor) had
a chance to end the game, but his 17-foot leaner with two-seconds
on the clock missed.
In overtime, a Phil
Sellers jumper with 2:16 to play gave Saint Rose its last
lead (69-68) as FP
scored the final seven points of the
game to pull out the victory despite hitting just one-of-four
from the line over the final two minutes.
Junior V.J.
Kwity (Torrance, Calif./West) and senior Kevin
Scott (Mississauga, Ontario/Iona Catholic) both
registered double-doubles to lead the Ravens. Kwity totaled
16 points and 11 rebounds (all defensive) to go along with
four assists, while Scott came off the bench to net 12 points
and grab a game-high 13 boards (five offensive).
Hunt led all scorers
with a game-high 18 points for FPC, on 8-13 shooting from
the field, to go along with six rebounds and four assists.
Sophomore Derek Rodgerson (Hampden, Maine/Hampden
Academy) rounded out the Ravens double-digit scorers
with 12 points. FP
shot 46.4-percent (32-69) from the field
on the afternoon and limited the Golden Knights to a 40%
(32-80) effort in the game.
Sellers led Saint
Rose with 16 points, on 8-14 shooting from the field. Cort
picked up his second double-double in three games as he
totaled 13 points and 11 rebounds to go along with four
assists and two steals. Junior J.T. Reed grabbed 11 boards
and netted nine points.
Senior guard Matt
Fryer dished eight assists to become just the fourth player
in Golden Knights history to surpass 500 for his career.
He moved into third-place on the school's all-time list
with 505 helpers in his career.

N.H., to face in-state rival Saint Anselm College at 7:30
