Munch Named 
NE-10 Freshman of the Week
Blauvelt, N.Y., native honored 
for fourth time this season

RINDGE, N.H. (February 14, 2006) – Franklin Pierce guard Timothy Munch (Blauvelt, N.Y./Storm King Prep) was named the Northeast-10 Conference’s men’s basketball Freshman of the Week by the Conference office on Monday.

            Munch, who collects the award for the fourth time this season, averaged 15.5 points and 5.5 rebounds to go with an assist and steal in a pair of teams ranked at or near the top of the Northeast Regional rankings last week. He shot 45.8-percent (11-of-24) from the field for the week. Munch netted a game-high 22 points, hitting 8-of-13 from the field (2-4 from three-point range), to go with a team-best seven rebounds in a tough 66-64 setback to first-place Bentley College, ranked third in the region, on Tuesday. He contributed nine points, four rebounds, two assists and a steal in the Ravens loss to second-place Stonehill College, ranked first in the Northeast, on Saturday.            

Munch, an NE-10 Freshman of the Year candidate, is averaging 11.6 points (2^nd on team) and 3.6 rebounds in 23.4 minutes per game in his first collegiate season. He is shooting a team-best 78.7-percent (37-47) from the free-throw line and is second with 46 three-pointers, hitting at 33.6% (46-137) from beyond the arc.

            Munch has led the Ravens in scoring seven times this season, including a team season-high total 31-point night in just his second collegiate outing, an 83-57 victory over CUNY-Baruch. His 22 points at Bentley on Tuesday was his season-high in NE-10 play. Munch has also picked up his production on the glass, leading the Ravens in rebounding four times this season (all since January 14). 

Franklin Pierce (13-11, 10-9 NE-10) is back in action tomorrow night with a key Northeast-10 battle at Merrimack College (11-13, 9-10 NE-10) in North Andover, Mass., at 7:30 p.m. The game (along with the women’s contest at 5:30 p.m., will be broadcast live on WFPC-LP 105.3 FM and simulcast over the internet at www.franklinpierce.edu /athletics.

The teams enter the contest separated by just a game for eighth place in the NE-10 standings. The Ravens can clinch home court advantage for the first round of the NE-10 Tournament with a win over the Warriors in the lone regular season encounter between the two.
