Saint
Rose Rolls Past ALBANY, N.Y.
(December 7, 2005) – The
College of Saint Rose used a hot shooting touch to post a 75-56
victory over Franklin Pierce in Northeast-10 Conference men’s
basketball action at Daniel P. Nolan Gymnasium tonight. Saint
Rose connected on 51-percent (26-51) of its shots from the field,
including 11-of-21 (52.4%) from three-point range, to hand Franklin
Pierce its third-straight loss. The Ravens connected on 45.7% (21-46)
of their shots from the field, but just 3-10 (30%) from three-point
range, and committed 22 turnovers. Senior
Brad Shove (Pittsfield, Mass./Pittsfield) led the
hot-shooting Saint Rose offense with 18 points, aided by 5-of-8
shooting from beyond the arc, four assists and three steals. Sophomore
Steve Dagostino (Guilderland, N.Y./Guilderland) finished with
14 points, as he hit 4-9 from three-point land, and four assists. Junior Michael Epperson (Bronx, N.Y./Monsignor Scanlan) added 15 points, five rebounds (three offensive) and three steals for the Golden Knights, while sophomore Will Monica (Great Falls, Va./Langley) came off the bench to hit 5-6 shots from the field for 11 points and four rebounds.
Freshman
Timothy Munch (Blauvelt, N.Y./Storm King Prep) led
Franklin Pierce with 14 points and four assists. Junior Sean
Mayo (Saco, Maine/Thornton Academy) posted 11 points, on
5-of-7 shooting from the floor, and five rebounds. Seniors Pierre
Sully (Jamaica Plain, Mass./North Cambridge) and Tom
Sadler (London, England/Farmington (N.H.) HS) each chipped in
seven points and five boards. Saint
Rose never trailed in a contest that was tied just once (2-2)
51-seconds into the first half, using 51.9% (14-27) shooting to build
a ten-point (39-29) halftime lead. While
it was its overall shooting in the first half that got Saint Rose
going, it was a scorching 8-of-12 (66.7%) shooting effort from
downtown in the second half that sealed it.
Franklin Pierce was within seven points (47-40) after a Nazim
Senaldi (Istanbul, Turkey) jumper with 14:29 to play, but a
20-10 Saint Rose stretch over the next eight minutes opened a 67-50
lead with 6:45 to play. Franklin Pierce (3-3, 1-3 NE-10) is off for two weeks before hosting Concordia (N.Y.) College on Wednesday, December 14, at 7 p.m. Saint Rose (6-2, 3-2 NE-10) visits Le Moyne College on Saturday at 3 p.m. |
