Franklin Pierce men’s basketball team cruised to a pair of
season-opening victories to capture the Green Mountain Tip-Off
Tournament title this weekend in Poultney, Vt.

Pierce 86, Vermont Technical College 47
Senior guard Pierre Sully (Jamaica Plain, Mass./North Cambridge)
led all scorers with 25 points on 10-of-17 shooting from the floor,
including 4-5 from three-point range, to go with three steals and two
assists. Classmate Justin Powell (Brookline, Mass./Brookline)
added 16 points, eight rebounds (four offensive), five assists and two
steals inside. Junior Sean Mayo (Saco, Maine/Thornton Academy) chipped
in seven points, five boards, five assists and two steals.

Freshman
Timothy Munch (Blauvelt, N.Y./Storm King Prep) led all
scorers with 31 points as he hit 10-of-16 from the field, including
4-10 from long-distance, and 7-8 at the free-throw line. Junior Sean
Mayo (Saco, Maine/Thornton Academy) added nine points, five
rebounds and three assists, while freshman Rimas Varanauskas (Kaunas,
Lithuania/The Winchendon School) chipped in eight points and
five boards off the bench.

Pierce (2-0, 0-0 NE-10) makes its home debut Tuesday night when it
hosts Southern Connecticut State University at 7:30 p.m.
