RINDGE, N.H. (November 22, 2004) - Franklin Pierce swept the Northeast-10 Conference basketball Freshman of the Week awards after the teams got their 2004-05 seasons off to a good start. The NE-10 office announced the honors this afternoon

Josie Lidke (Chaska, Minn./Chaska) earned the NE-10 Women’s Freshman of the Week award, while Darrell Anderson (Kansas City, Kan./The Winchendon School) picked up the men’s award.

Lidke got her collegiate career off to a fast start as she helped the Ravens post a pair of comfortable season-opening victories at the Clarion Tip-Off Classic, hosted by Saint Michael’s College, over the weekend. She averaged 15 points, four rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.5 steals, while shooting 48.1-percent from the field, including four-of-eight (50%) from three-point range.

Lidke registered 14 points, four assists, three rebounds and two steals in her collegiate debut to help Franklin Pierce collect an 88-50 season-opening victory over Dowling College on Saturday. She totaled 16 points, on 7-13 shooting from the field (2-3 from long-distance), with five rebounds, three assists and three steals in Sunday’s commanding 93-44 win over Saint Thomas Aquinas College.

Lidke ranks 14th in the NE-10 in scoring in the early going and eighth in three-point field goal percentage.

Anderson averaged 16.5 points, nine rebounds and a block in 24 minutes per game off the bench as the Franklin Pierce men’s team split a pair of season-opening contests at the Bridgeport Purple Knight Classic over the weekend. He hit 57.1-percent (12-21) of his shots from the field and 7-8 (87.5%) of his attempts at the line for the weekend.

Anderson notched his first career double-double in Sunday’s tough 93-92 overtime loss to Bloomfield College with 18 points and a game-best 13 rebounds (nine offensive). In Saturday’s season-opening 93-77 win over Teikyo Post, he totaled 15 points and five boards.

Anderson ranks seventh in the Northeast-10 in rebounding and blocks per game in the early going.

The Franklin Pierce men (1-1) and women (2-0) open their Northeast-10 Conference schedules on Tuesday in New Haven, Conn., against Southern Connecticut State University. The women tip-off at 5:30 p.m., with the men to follow at approximately 7:30 p.m. Both games can be heard live on WFPC-LP 105.3 FM or on the internet beginning at 5:20 p.m.
