Franklin Pierce falls to Bryant, 8-1 RINDGE, N.H. (October 14, 2007) – The Franklin Pierce University men’s tennis team was defeated by Bryant University by a score of 8-1 in a Northeast-10 Conference men’s tennis match on Sunday afternoon at the Franklin Pierce tennis courts. Senior Austin Gardella (Norwalk, Conn./Norwalk) recorded the only victory of the afternoon for the Ravens, as he earned an 8-3 victory over Dylan Whiting (Florence, Mass.) in second singles action. Gardell and sophomore Helder Nogueira (Dourados, Brazil/Lowell (Mass.)) nearly picked up another point for the Ravens in first doubles play, falling by a score of 8-6 to Whiting and Kevin Gardiner (Powder Springs, Ga.). Junior Matthew Robinson (Bedford, N.H./Manchester West) also put up a good fight for the home team before losing to Bryant’s Thomas Novak (Medfield, Mass.), 6-3, 6-4, in fourth singles play. Bryant was led by Cristian Balestrieri (Mar Del Plata, Argentina) and Jose Rodriguez (Trujilo, Peru), who combined to earn an 8-0 win at second doubles and then won their first and third singles matches, respectively, by the same score of 6-1, 6-0. Franklin Pierce (1-3, 1-3 NE-10) will finish the fall portion of its 2007-08 schedule next Sunday, as the Ravens host Merrimack College in a Northeast-10 match on Oct. 21 beginning at 10 a.m. at the Franklin Pierce tennis courts.
