Franklin Pierce falls to
Bentley, 7-2
Nogueira remains undefeated in both singles
and doubles play in 2007

WALTHAM, Mass. (October 9, 2007) – The Franklin Pierce University men’s tennis team dropped a 7-2 match to Bentley College in a Northeast-10 Conference men’s tennis match at the Bentley Tennis Courts on Tuesday afternoon.

Sophomore Helder Nogueira (Dourados, Brazil/Lowell (Mass.)) continued his undefeated run through the first three matches of 2007, as he won both his first singles and first doubles matches for the Ravens. In doubles action, Nogueira teamed with senior Austin Gardella (Norwalk, Conn./Norwalk) to cruise past Bentley’s pair of Celestino Sepulveda (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Spackenkill) and Patrick Schorno (Fishkill, N.Y./John Jay), 8-3. Then in singles action, Nogueira came back from a set down to defeat Michael Dolan (Shrewsbury, Mass./St. John’s) in a tiebreaker, 3-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-6).

Gardella almost pulled out his second singles match against Schorno, falling, 6-4, 6-4. Franklin Pierce’s second doubles team of junior Matthew Robinson (Bedford, N.H./Manchester West) and freshman Max Logan (Waterford, Conn./Waterford) also came close to earning the Ravens another point, losing an 8-6 match to Dolan and Stephen Sparks (Wakefield, Mass./Wakefield).

Franklin Pierce (1-2, 1-2 NE-10) will look to return to the win column on Oct. 14 as the Ravens host Bryant University in a Northeast-10 matchup at the Franklin Pierce tennis courts beginning at 1 p.m. Bentley (3-1, 3-0 NE-10) will host Saint Anselm on Thursday at 3:30 p.m.
