Gardella earns wins at first singles and first
doubles for the Ravens

LUDLOW, Mass. (March 31, 2008) – American International College used three default wins to defeat Franklin Pierce University by a score of 6-3 in Northeast-10 Conference men’s tennis action on Monday afternoon at the Ludlow Tennis Club.

Franklin Pierce senior Austin Gardella (Norwalk, Conn./Norwalk) was the only player on either team to play and win two matches on Monday. The senior teamed with freshman Adit Phataraprasit (Bangkok, Thailand/Millfield School (U.K.)) to take an 8-7 (8-6) first-doubles win in a tiebreaker, and then defeated Peter Almlof (Kennett Square, Pa./Chelmsford) in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4, at first singles.

American International freshman Alex Dos Santos (Ludlow, Mass./Ludlow) and junior Robert Dulfan (Worcester, Mass./Universal) each were credited with two wins on the day, but the duo combined to play only one match. The pair won their third-doubles match in a walkover, while Dulfan also won his sixth-singles match when the injury-plagued Franklin Pierce squad could not produce an opponent. Dos Santos earned a straight-set victory over Raven freshman Max Logan (Waterford, Conn./Waterford) at fourth singles, however, winning the first set in a tiebreaker before taking the second set, 6-3.

Sophomore Max Collins (Westfield, Mass./Holyoke) and freshman Robert Lubold (Holyoke, Mass./Holyoke) also earned tough three-set victories for the Yellow Jackets. Collins took down junior Roland Oganyan (Watertown, Mass./Watertown) at second singles, 6-3, 5-7, 6-4, while Lubold came back from a set down to defeat Phataraprasit, 4-6, 6-3, 6-3, in third singles play.

Franklin Pierce (1-6, 1-6 NE-10) plays its only home match of the spring season on Wednesday when it hosts Saint Michael’s College at 3 p.m. American International (2-3, 2-2 NE-10) hosts Le Moyne College on Thursday at 3 p.m.
