Bryant Defeats 
Franklin Pierce, 6-3

RINDGE, N.H. (April 18, 2006) – Bryant University swept the last four singles matches to pull out a 6-3 decision over Franklin Pierce in Northeast-10 Conference men’s tennis action this afternoon.

            Freshman Dixon Simmons (Narragansett, R.I./Bishop Hendricken) was a double-winner for Franklin Pierce as his 6-2, 6-2 victory at No. 2 singles gave the Ravens a 3-2 lead at one point in the match. Simmons also teamed with sophomore Austin Gardella (Norwalk, Conn./Norwalk) for an 8-4 decision at No. 1 doubles.

            Bryant, which took two of three doubles matches, clinched the victory by winning each of the last four singles matches. Junior Zach Goodman (Amherst, Mass./Amherst Regional) led the double-winners for the Bulldogs with a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 3 singles after combining with classmate Ben Caisse (Griswold, Conn./Griswold) for an 8-4 triumph at No. 2 doubles. Caisse also picked up a win at No. 4 singles.         

            Franklin Pierce (2-9, 2-9 NE-10) sees its season come to a close, while Bryant (8-6, 8-3 NE-10) hosts fifth-seeded Le Moyne College in quarterfinal round action of the NE-10 Tournament tomorrow at 2 p.m.
