The Rogue River, Ore., native earns his second weekly honor after a three-assist outing

RINDGE, N.H. (January 2, 2008) – Freshman forward Sean Woodring (Rogue River, Ore./Eugene Generals) of the Franklin Pierce University men’s ice hockey team was named the Northeast-10 Conference Freshman of the Week for the period ending January 1, the conference announced on Wednesday afternoon.

Woodring earns his second Freshman of the Week award of the season after collecting the same honor on Nov. 20. The center tied his season-high by recording three points in the team’s only game last week, a 5-1 win over the University of Minnesota-Crookston on Friday night. Woodring dished out a season-best three assists against the Golden Eagles, tied for the second highest total by a Raven this season.

The Rogue River, Ore., native, who centers the team’s top line alongside senior captain Joe Fields (Towamencin, Pa./Green Mountain Glades) and junior Jeff Kasper (South Boston, Mass./Catholic Memorial), currently ranks third on the team with eight assists and has posted 11 points in his freshman campaign, placing him seventh on the team. Woodring also ranks second in scoring among Northeast-10 freshmen, as his 3-8–11 line is only one point behind Southern New Hampshire University’s Patrick Fitzgibbons.

Franklin Pierce will play its first game of 2008 on Friday evening, when the Ravens travel to Becker College for an ECAC Northeast Conference matchup beginning at 8:30 p.m. The team then returns home for a four-game homestand beginning on Jan. 9 at 7 p.m. against Northeast-10 foe Saint Anselm College.
