RINDGE, N.H. (November 20, 2007) Two members of the Franklin Pierce University men’s ice hockey team received accolades from conference offices this week. Senior captain Joe Fields (Towamencin, Pa./Green Mountain Glades) was named both Northeast-10 and ECAC Northeast Conference Player of the Week while freshman Sean Woodring (Rogue River, Ore./Eugene Generals) earned Northeast-10 Rookie of the Week honors.

Fields earns his second career Player of the Week honor from both the Northeast-10 and the ECAC Northeast after scoring five goals and adding three assists for eight points in four games last week. The senior began the week by tying his career high with two goals (including the game-winner) and two assists in the Ravens’ 9-6 win over Worcester State last Monday. After scoring once against Assumption on Wednesday, the captain completed his week with two goals and an assist versus Johnson & Wales on Sunday afternoon.

The Towamencin, Pa., native is tied for the team lead in goals and points through six games with five goals and five assists for 10 points, which places him first in the Northeast-10 and in a tie for fourth in the ECAC Northeast. He also paces the Ravens with five points (two goals, three assists) in the team’s three ECAC Northeast contests.

The senior has scored 27 goals and added 38 assists for 65 points in three-plus seasons with the Ravens, and he is currently in reach of breaking all three major career offensive records at Franklin Pierce. Fields ranks second in assists, third in goals and third in points all-time at the school, and needs only three points, four assists and eight goals to become the school’s all-time leader in the respective categories.

Freshman Sean Woodring earned his first career conference honor from the NE-10 on Monday.

Woodring earns his first career award from the Northeast-10 after scoring three goals and adding three assists for six points in four games. The freshman forward set a season-high with three points after scoring his first collegiate goal and dishing out two assists in the team’s win over Worcester State last Monday. Woodring also scored once against Assumption and tallied a goal and an assist against Johnson & Wales on Sunday.

Woodring has made an immediate impact in his first season with Franklin Pierce, centering the team’s top line alongside Fields and junior Jeff Kasper (South Boston, Mass./Catholic Memorial). The freshman currently ranks fourth on the team with eight points on three goals and five assists through six games, making him the top-scoring freshman in the Northeast-10 and tying him for first in the ECAC NE in freshman scoring.

Franklin Pierce (1-5-0, 0-3-0 ECAC NE, 0-0-0 NE-10) is in the midst of a nine-day layoff between games, as the Ravens will return to the ice on Wednesday, Nov. 28 with an ECAC Northeast Conference matchup against Suffolk University at 8 p.m. at the Winchendon School Ice Arena.
