Promotes Harrington
to Head Ice Hockey Coach
Ravens assistant promoted to become
program’s third head coach in varsity era 

RINDGE, N.H. (June 24, 2008) – Franklin Pierce University announced the resignation of Scott Loiseau as head men’s ice hockey coach and assistant baseball coach and promoted assistant coach Jaymie Harrington to head coach of the men’s ice hockey program. The announcement was made today by Bruce Kirsh, Vice President and Director of Athletics at the University, and confirmed by President Dr. George J. Hagerty.

            Loiseau resigned recently to accept the position of head baseball coach at Southern New Hampshire University. Harrington has been promoted to fill the ice hockey head coaching void after serving one season as assistant coach under Loiseau.

            “I am very pleased to name Jaymie Harrington as our new ice hockey coach,” said Kirsh. “I am confident in his ability and I believe he will continue the development of our program started a year ago by Scott Loiseau.”           

Harrington becomes the third head coach in the Franklin Pierce ice hockey program’s varsity era (since 2002) after recently completing his first season as an assistant coach. In addition to helping in all aspects of team recruiting and game-day preparation, Harrington played a key role in the improvement of the program from a competitive standpoint in 2007-08. The coaching staff also brought a new-found discipline to the program, as Franklin Pierce decreased its penalty total by nearly 300 minutes from the 2006-07 season.

            In addition to matching the program record for wins in the varsity era, posting a 6-19-0 overall record, 14 of Franklin Pierce’s losses were by two goals or less, including 11 by a single goal, and five in overtime. The Ravens set numerous single-season offensive team records, including goals (93), assists (151), points (244) and power-play goals (47), and finished the regular season with the third-best power play in the nation (30.5-percent).

            “I would like to thank Bruce Kirsh and Franklin Pierce University for the opportunity to lead a fantastic group of student-athletes,” said Harrington. “With the combination of our returning players and recruiting class, I am extremely excited to continue to build upon the foundation that was laid this past season. I look forward to continuing our pursuit of a Northeast-10 Championship.”

            Harrington joined Franklin Pierce from NCAA Division I Canisius College, from which he graduated in 2007 with a Bachelor’s Degree in physical education. A four-year letterwinner with the Golden Griffins, he recorded 11 goals and 16 assists for 27 points in 114 collegiate games.

            Prior to attending Canisius, Harrington played one season for the Boston Jr. Bruins (Eastern Junior Hockey League), where he finished third on the team in scoring with a line of 39-35-74, and two years with the Dubuque Saints and the Chicago Steel of the United States Hockey League (USHL).

            A native of Sterling, Mass., Harrington currently resides in Winchendon, Mass., and is currently pursuing his Master’s Degree in elementary education at Franklin Pierce.
