Ewa Bergsten '95
The dynasty that is the Franklin Pierce University
women’s soccer team can trace it roots back to the fall of 1992. That’s when Ewa Bergsten arrived from Stockholm, Sweden, starting a European invasion that forever changed the face of women’s soccer in Rindge.

Playing alongside fellow Swedes Petra Lostelius and Karolina Divert, Bergsten helped Coach Mark Krikorian transform a program that struggled to be competitive in its own region into the dominant NCAA Division II program in the country.

Bergsten's impact was immediate as she was named the NCAA Division II Player of the Year as a freshman. A forward who could score anywhere in the attacking part of the field, Bergsten set program records for points (79) and goals (31) for not only one season but for a career.

After helping the Ravens win NCAA Division II national titles in 1994 and 1995, she ended her career ranking third in points (167), third in goals (63) and fourth in assists (41). The five goals she scored in one game in 1992 is an accomplishment that has never been topped at FPC.

Bergsten was a one-time NCAA scoring champion, a three-time All-America and a two-time Academic All-America, and she will forever be linked with the start of a dynasty.

The image of her and her teammates celebrating their titles of 1994 and 1995 in front of close to 2,000 people at Crystal Field will not soon be forgotten.

Ewa currently lives in Hartford, Conn., and is an assistant coach to Mark Krikorian with the nationally-ranked University of Hartford women's soccer team.
