BROOKVILLE,
N.Y. (Oct. 10, 2004) – The
Franklin Pierce field hockey team halted a four-match losing streak by
defeating host Long Island University – C.W. Post 2-1 today in
non-conference action. With the win, the Ravens improve their overall
record to 4-7. The Pioneers dropped to 2-11 overall after their
seventh straight loss.
Sophomore Angela Barone (Norwood, Pa./Interboro)
got the Ravens on the board early, as she tallied her fourth goal of
the season 11:37 into the contest. Franklin Pierce entered the break
leading 1-0, as neither team scored for the remainder of the first
half.
The
Ravens sealed the victory with 12:28 to go in the match when senior
Chelsey Munson (Weybridge,
Vt./Middlebury Union)
took a pass from junior Trisha Langevin (Bellingham,
Mass/Bellingham) and
notched her fifth goal of the season. The tally, which gave Franklin
Pierce a 2-0 lead, also marked Munson’s second game-winner this year.
Sophomore Becky Winkel notched the lone goal of the
match for the Pioneers with 6:24 in the second half, but the Ravens
held on for the 2-1 victory.
Sophomore goalkeeper Amanda Pietraszuk (Clinton,
Conn./The Morgan School)
saved five shots en route to her first collegiate victory. Freshman
Carolyn Kisling took the loss despite saving five shots for
C.W. Post.
Franklin Pierce (4-7, 3-7 NE-10)
returns to action on Thursday, as they travel to Assumption for a
Northeast-10 Conference match beginning at 4 p.m. L.I.U.-C.W. Post
(2-11) will play again on Friday when they face off against Catawba on
the campus of Philadelphia University at 2:30 p.m.
