#2 Lock Haven Bests FPC, 10-0

LOCK HAVEN, PENN. (Sept. 23, 2001) - The Franklin Pierce University
women's field hockey team suffered their second straight shutout as they were defeated by defending Division II National Champions, Lock Haven, by a score of 10-0 this afternoon. Lock Haven jumped out to the early lead at the 7:27 mark of the first half when Shannon Spease (Liverpool, Pa./Greenwood) scored on a breakaway pass from Erika Grap (Van Etten, N.Y./Spencer Van Etten). Megan Dwyer (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) then capitalized on a pass from Spease at the 16:17 mark of the first half to give the Lady Eagles the 2-0 lead.

Lock Haven continued to take advantage, as Janelle Ebaugh (McSherrystown, Pa./Littlestown) scored twice, and Val George (New Oxford, Pa./New Oxford) and Kellie Kulina (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin) each scored one to make the score 6-0 at the half.

The Lady Eagles peppered netminder Irene Smith (Olivebridge, N.Y./Onteora) with 65 shots on goal, but Smith stood up to the challenge and made a record breaking 41 saves in 60 minutes of work. Smith's 41 save performance lists her first on FPC's all-time saves in a single game list, breaking a record 27 saves set by former FP
goalkeeper, Alison Davis in 1998. Kasey McClements (Ashland, Mass./Ashland) recorded five saves for the Ravens in 10 minutes of play.
