Bryant Scores Late Goal in 2-1 Win
WINCHENDON, Mass.
(October 25, 2000) - The last time Elizabeth Gunn
(Vineyard Haven, Mass.) scored two goals against Franklin
Pierce College, it was not enough to keep the Bryant College
field hockey team from losing.
On Wednesday, it
was.
Gunn scored two goals,
including the game-winner in the 67th minute, to lift the
Bulldogs to a 2-1 win in the quarterfinal round of the Northeast-10
tournament Wednesday at the Winchendon School.
Fifth-seeded Bryant
(7-11) avenged a regular-season loss to the fourth-seeded
Franklin Pierce (10-7) and, in the process, earned a spot
in the semifinal round Friday at top-seeded St. Michael's.
The Bulldogs punched
their ticket to Colchester, Vt., when Gunn one-timed a crossing
pass from Darci Brown (Belfast, Maine) to
the far post.
In the first meeting
between Bryant and FPC, four weeks ago on this same field,
the Ravens rallied from a 2-0 deficit to win 4-2.
They fell behind
again Wednesday when Gunn scored in the fourth minute of
the match, converting a long free hit by Melissa Manseau
(Bedford, N.H.).
The Ravens tied the
game in the 52nd minute when Lisa
Harris (Rutland, Mass.) banged in the rebound
of a shot by Chrystean
Page (Turner, Maine).
Kasey
McClements (Ashland, Mass.) made 21 saves for
the Ravens, while Shannon Foley (Littleton,
Mass.) stopped 14 shots for the Bulldogs.
The Ravens now must
wait until Monday to find out if they have earned a bid
to the ECAC Division II tournament.
