Franklin Pierce drops
6-1 game to Saint Michael's
COLCHESTER, Vt. (September 12, 2007) – The Franklin Pierce University field hockey team dropped a 6-1 game to Saint Michael’s College in Northeast-10 Conference action on Wednesday afternoon at Duffy Field. Graduate student Mary Beth Huszar (Greenville, N.H./Mascenic Regional) scored the lone goal of the game for the Ravens at the 53:59 mark in the second half. Huszar recorded all seven shots on the afternoon for the Ravens, including six shots on goal. With her goal, the 14th of her career, Huszar moved into sole possession of third place on the Franklin Pierce all-time goals-scored list, breaking a tie with Laura Blanchard ’05. She is three goals behind Karen Clarke ’00, who sits in second place. Freshman Tevis Hannington (Canton, Mass./Notre Dame Academy) made her first collegiate appearance and start for Franklin Pierce against the Purple Knights, and made two saves on four shots in the first half. Junior Stephanie Howard (Norwalk, Conn./Norwalk) played in goal for the second half, turning away four of eight Saint Michael’s shots on goal. For the home team, Jordan Smalling (Essex Junction, Vt./Essex) made four saves and was helped out by a defensive save. Alexandra Simmons (Danvers, Mass./Bishop Fenwick) had a big game for Saint Michael’s, accounting for the team’s last three goals with two scores and an assist. The Purple Knights also received two goals from Kaitlin Koffink (Goffstown, N.H./Goffstown Area) and two assists from Tricia McCormick (East Walpole, Mass./Walpole). Franklin Pierce (0-6, 0-5 NE-10) will return to action on Saturday afternoon, when the Ravens travel to Bronxville, N.Y., in search of their first win of the season against C.W. Post. Saint Michael’s (1-5, 1-3 NE-10) will look to build on its first win of the season on Saturday against American International.
