Franklin Pierce falls to C.W. Post, 9-4
Huzsar leads four different Raven scorers with a goal and an assist

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (September 15, 2007) – C.W. Post forward Amber Limanni (Mickleton, N.J./Kingsway) scored a career-high four goals and added an assist as the host Pioneers defeated Franklin Pierce University in a non-conference field hockey match on Saturday afternoon at Hickox Field. Graduate student Mary Beth Huszar (Greenville, N.H./Mascenic Regional) led the Ravens with a goal and an assist.

Four Ravens scored on the day, led by Huszar’s three points. Junior co-captain Kayleigh Jaksina (Townsend, Mass./North Middlesex), sophomore Jennifer Provencher (Rye, N.H./Portsmouth) and freshman Ashley Moirano (South Burlington, Vt./South Burlington) each recorded their first goals of the season, with Moirano’s second half-tally the first of her collegiate career. 

After C.W. Post scored twice in the opening five minutes to take a quick 2-0 lead, Limanni scored her first two goals of the game within 42 seconds to give her team a four-goal advantage. Franklin Pierce scored the last goal before halftime, however, as Jaksina tipped a shot from sophomore Ashley Abernethy (Bellingham, Mass./Bellingham) into the net in the 31^st minute.

After another four-goal streak from the Pioneers, Franklin Pierce scored three of the last four goals of the game to account for the final score. Moirano began the streak with her first career goal off an assist from senior co-captain Elizabeth Ellis (Turner, Maine/Leavitt). Huszar then played a role in the final two Raven goals, beating the goaltender one-on-one for her third goal of the season and then assisting on a near-post redirection from Provencher with 36 seconds left.

The Ravens and Pioneers both recorded 15 shots on the afternoon, while Franklin Pierce held a decisive 14-3 advantage in penalty corners. Junior Stephanie Howard (Norwalk, Conn./Norwalk) and freshman Tevis Hannington (Canton, Mass./Notre Dame Academy) combined to make two saves for the visitors.

Franklin Pierce (0-7, 0-5 NE-10) returns home to Sodexho Field for two matches this week, beginning with a Northeast-10 Conference matchup with Merrimack College on Tuesday at 6 p.m. C.W. Post (5-1, 0-0 ECC) will host Bentley College on Monday night.
