Huszar ties the Franklin Pierce single-season assists record

SMITHFIELD, R.I. (October 6, 2007) – Julie Kuchyt (Hatfield, Mass./Smith Academy) and Caroline Carr (Wrentham, Mass./King Philip) each scored twice as Bryant University, ranked eighth in this week’s STX/NFHCA National Div. II Coaches Poll, defeated Franklin Pierce University by a score of 4-1 in a Northeast-10 Conference field hockey match on Saturday night at the Turf Field Complex.

Junior defender Stephanie Howard (Norwalk, Conn./Norwalk) scored the lone goal of the evening for the Ravens, finding the back of the net for the second consecutive match. She increased her career high with her third goal of the season and of the last two matches at the 15:06 mark of the first half, off of a pass from graduate student Mary Beth Huszar (Greenville, N.H./Mascenic Regional). With her fifth assist of the season, Huszar also tied the school record for most assists in a single season, last achieved by Karen Clarke ’00 and Kristen Clarke ’00, both in 2000.

Kuckyt began the scoring in the fourth minute, taking a pass from Kelly Frantz (Southbury, Conn./Pomperaug) and beating freshman netminder Tevis Hannington (Canton, Mass./Notre Dame Academy). Carr recorded her first goal of the game, the eventual game-winner, exactly six minutes later at the 9:57 mark, also with the assist credited to Frantz.

Both players scored their second goals of the game later in the evening, Kuchyt’s coming in the 30^th minute and Carr’s in the 40^th minute.

Hannington made two saves for the Ravens on the night, while Bryant’s Kundayi Mawema (Hare, Zimbabwe/Dominican Convent) made one save before ceding the net to teammate Kasey Kortz (Louisville, Ky./St. Francis) for the final 14:53 of play. 

Franklin Pierce (1-13, 1-10 NE-10) will return to action on Wednesday evening, when the Ravens welcome Saint Michael’s to Sodexho Field for a 6 p.m. Northeast-10 match. Bryant (10-5, 10-2 NE-10) will take on Southern Connecticut State on Wednesday night.
