All-America and All-Conference candidate. Returns to his starting
centerfield spot. One of the fastest players on the team also has
a strong arm and good range. Ranks among career leaders in stolen
bases (5th), at bats (10th) and hits (11th). Carries a four-game
hitting streak into the season.
Summer 2004:
Played six games, starting four under a ten-day contract with the
Keene Swamp Bats of the New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL).
Totaled three hits and scored two runs with two steals (three
attempts).
2004:
Earned second team All-Northeast-10 Conference honors. One of four
players to start a school-record 55 games. Hit .291 (60-206) with
43 runs scored, ten doubles, three home runs and 21 RBI. Posted a
.384 on-base percentage. Stole a record 23 bases (26 attempts). At
bats are also a single-season record, while his 12 hit by pitch
total is third and run total is good for eighth. Registered an
11-game hitting streak (third-best on the team) and totaled 14
multi-hit, five multi-RBI games and nine two-out RBI. Reached base
43.2-percent (16-37) of his chances when leading off an inning,
hit .300 (21-70) with runners in scoring position, converted 41.7%
(5-12) of his opportunities with a runner on third and less than
two out and successfully advanced baserunners 49.6% (60-121) of
the time. Batted .340 (18-53) with four doubles, three homers, 12
runs scored and five RBI in the first inning. Recorded four
outfield assists. Batted .286 (36-126) with 25 runs scored, ten
doubles, a homer, ten RBI and 14 steals in Conference play. Hit
.300 (24-80) with 18 runs scored, two homers, 11 RBI and nine
steals in non-conference play. Was 2-for-3 with a stolen base and
two RBI in season-opener at New Jersey Institute of Technology
(3/5). Finished a combined 3-6 with a homer, four runs scored and
three RBI in doubleheader with Wayne State (3/13). Batted a
combined 6-11 with two doubles, four steals and seven runs scored
in three-game weekend series sweep of American International.
Rounded out the series by hitting 3-5 with a school-record
matching three stolen bases and three runs scored against the
Yellow Jackets (3/28). Finished a combined 5-10 with two doubles
and two RBI in doubleheader sweep of Stonehill (4/24). Hit .333
(4-12) in the ECAC Championship series.
2003:
Started all 49 games. 44 starts came in leftfield with five in
center. Ranked second on the team with a .325 batting average
(50-154) to go with 22 runs scored, three doubles, a home run and
18 RBI. Registered seven stolen bases on 12 attempts. Totaled
three outfield assists. Hit .328 (40-122) against righties, .312
(10-32) against lefties. Reached base 51.3-percent (20-39) of his
opportunities when leading off an inning, converted on 81.8%
(9-11) of his chances with a runner on third and less than two out
and successfully advanced baserunners 50.5% (48-95) of the time.
Registered a team-leading .750 (6-8) bunting average and 12
sacrifice bunts. Totaled six two-out RBI, 12 multi-hit and four
multi-RBI games. Hit .297 (30-101) with 11 runs scored, two
doubles and 13 RBI in 31 games played using wood bats. Batted a
team-leading .377 (20-53) with 11 runs scored, a double, homer and
five RBI with aluminum bats. Hit a team-best .385 (15-39) with
eight runs scored and two RBI in the postseason. Led the team with
a .400 (10-25) batting average and seven runs scored and an RBI in
seven NCAA Tournament games. Was named Most Outstanding Player at
the NCAA Northeast Regional as he hit a team-best .500 (6-12) with
five runs scored in the three games, serving as the Ravens chief
table-setter. Batted .308 (4-13) with an RBI and two runs scored
in four games at the College World Series. Was 2-3 with a run
scored and two RBI in win over New Jersey Tech (3/17). Hit 3-4
with a double, homer, three runs scored and two RBI in win over
Molloy (3/21). Batted 3-4 with an RBI in win over Bryant (4/27).
Was 3-4 with two runs scored in NCAA Regional win over Dowling
(5/15). Batted 2-4 with two runs scored in Regional win over New
Haven (5/16). Closed out the season with a 2-4 effort against
Tampa (5/29). Named NE-10 Player and Freshman of the Week once
(5/18).
High School: 2002
honors graduate of Conant High School in Jaffrey. Four-year
letterwinner for coach Andre Arel, served as team captain as a
senior. Earned team MVP honors as a junior and senior and
Monadnock League All-Star honors three years. Also lettered in
soccer.
Personal:
Born April 12, 1984, in Peterborough, N.H. Son of Thomas and
Allison Shea of Jaffrey. Has a sister, Hannah (24). Dean's List
student majoring in finance with a minor in management. Aspires to
be a commercial airlines pilot. Supports the Boston Red Sox. Torii
Hunter is a favorite athlete. Lists participating in the 2003
Division II College World Series as his greatest sports moment so
