Expected to see the bulk of action out of the bullpen, but is capable of being a contributer as a starter. Has good control and can work all areas of the strike zone.
2004: Made ten appearances with three starts. Posted a 3-1 record with a save, 4.61 ERA, 15 strikeouts and just eight walks in 27.1 innings of work. Held all opposing batters to a .229 batting average, righties hit just .200 (16-80) and batters hit .188 (6-32) with runners in scoring position. Yielded just three earned runs (2.67 ERA) from the sixth inning on (10.1 IP). Stranded all seven of the baserunners he inherited during the year. Won his last three decisions of the season. Made six appearances, one start, in Conference play and posted a 2-0 record with a 2.08 ERA, ten strikeouts and just four walks in 17.1 innings, limiting opposing batters to a .182 average. Earned his first career save with two-thirds of an inning against North Dakota State (3/12). Fired three innings of no-hit relief, fanning one, in 7-6 win over Southern Connecticut State (4/12). Picked up his first win of the season with a perfect inning of relief in game one of a doubleheader sweep of Merrimack (4/19). Earned the win in game two of doubleheader sweep of Saint Rose (5/1), yielding four runs, just two earned, on six hits with a season-best seven strikeouts in 6.1 innings. Made one relief appearance in postseason play, earning a win in game one of ECAC Championship series against Wilmington (5/14) with 1.2 perfect innings.
2003: Made ten appearances with four starts. Posted a 2-2 record with a 3.50 ERA. Struck out 23 and walked eight in 36 innings of work. Was 2-0 with a 2.01 ERA, 18 strikeouts and just three walks in 22.1 innings of work over five appearances, two starts, in Conference games, holding opposing batters to a .226 batting average. In two postseason appearances (one start) was 0-1 with a 3.00 ERA and three strikeouts in nine innings. Turned in 2.1 innings of no-hit relief in win over Bryant (4/27). Earned his first career victory with a nine-inning complete game effort against Assumption (4/30) in which he allowed two earned runs, scattering nine hits and a walk, with a career-best eight strikeouts. Picked up another complete game triumph at Bentley (5/5) as he yielded just an earned run on six hits with six strikeouts and two walks. Turned in a solid effort in the NE-10 Championship game loss to UMass Lowell (5/11), allowing two runs, just one earned, on 11 hits with three strikeouts.
High School: 2002 graduate of Gateway Regional High in Huntington, Mass. Earned All-State and All-Western Mass honors. Named MVP at the Western Massachusetts Tournament his senior year. Participated in the Mass./Conn. All-Star Game at Fenway Park. Also lettered in soccer and basketball.
Personal: Born January 17, 1984, in Springfield, Mass. Son of Tom and Gloria Farrell of Russell, Mass. Has a sister, Meghan (23), and brother, Pat (19). Majoring in mass communication. Supports the Boston Red Sox. Curt Schilling is a favorite athlete. Lists playing in the 2003 College World Series as his greatest sports moment.
