Academic All-America and All-Region candidate. Looks to come back and make a big impact after injuries plagued him as a sophomore. Posseses an incredible slider and a fastball with lots of movement. Equally effective against batters on both sides of the plate. Ranks among career leaders at the College in earned run average (2nd), wins (6th), strikeouts (9th) and complete games (10th). Has dominated in Conference play, having won his last five decisions with a 33.1 scoreless inning streak entering the season that dates back to his freshman year. Is 7-3 with a 1.88 ERA, 64 strikeouts and just 13 walks in 57.1 innings of work in NE-10 regular season action in his career (12 appearances, six starts).
Summer 2004: Made six relief appearances with the Concord Quarry Dogs of the New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL) early in the season before shutting it down with an injury. Was 0-1 with a save, 4.00 ERA, six strikeouts and seven walks in nine innings.
2004: Injuries limited him to eight appearances, three starts. Was 3-3 with a 4.55 ERA, 32 strikeouts and just seven walks in 27.2 innings of work. Opposing batters hit .243 against him and baserunners were unsuccessful on all three steal attempts against him. Did not yield a run in five appearances (one start) in Conference play, posting a 3-0 record with 21 strikeouts and just one walk in 15.1 innings of work. Also yielded just five hits (.100 opp. BA). After a month off, pitched four innings of two-hit shutout relief with five strikeouts and no walks in win over No. 20 Southern Connecticut State (4/12). Picked up his first win of the season against UMass Lowell (4/18), firing five innings of two-hit shutout baseball with eight strikeouts and one walk. Earned relief wins in both ends of a doubleheader with Stonehill (4/24) with a combined five perfect innings of work with seven strikeouts. Threw four perfect innings with five strikeouts in the nightcap against the Chieftains.
Summer 2003: Honed his skills with the Concord Quarry Dogs of the NECBL. Made ten appearances, four starts, and posted a team-leading four wins. Was 4-2 with a 3.12 ERA, 30 strikeouts and just six walks in 40.1 innings of work.
2003: Made a team-high 14 appearances with nine starts as a true freshman. Was 8-4 with a save, 2.92 ERA, 74 strikeouts and just 15 walks in 77.0 innings of work. Eight wins set a program record for freshmen. Totaled five complete games, one shutout and a combined shutout. Opposing batters hit just .201 against him. Lefties hit a mere .109 (6-55). Averaged 12.5 outs on the ground compared to 4.6 in the air. Led all Raven pitchers with 23 assists and was error free on 26 total chances. Finished 5-3 with a 2.29 ERA, 52 strikeouts and 12 walks in 51 innings, holding batters to a .173 average, over his eight appearances (six starts) against the Northeast-10-mandated wood bats. Was 2-1 with a 2.25 ERA, 19 strikeouts and just six walks while limiting opposing hitters to a .141 batting average in 24 innings over three starts at home. Was 3-0 with save, a team-low 2.42 ERA, 17 strikeouts and just one walk in 26 innings over four appearances (three starts) in the postseason. In three appearances (two starts) in the NCAA Tournament, was 2-0 with a save, 3.18 ERA, eight strikeouts and a walk over 17 innings. Earned his first career win with a complete-game effort against New Jersey Tech (3/17) as he allowed just an earned run on five hits with ten strikeouts and a walk in the seven-inning contest. Posted a complete-game victory against Stonehill (4/6) yielding just an unearned run on three hits and a walk with ten strikeouts. Totaled a career-best 11 strikeouts in just 5.1 innings of work at Assumption (4/15). Most impressive outing of the season came with a two-hit shutout of Saint Rose (5/1) in which he was perfect through three and carried a one-hitter into the ninth while striking out eight and walking just one. Earned a win over Stonehill (5/10) to help the Ravens avoid elimination in the NE-10 Tournament as he allowed just an earned run on nine hits and no walks with nine strikeouts. In the NCAA Northeast Regional, earned a save with a perfect inning of relief in game one win against Dowling (5/15) then earned the win in the Ravens victory over UMass Lowell in the Regional Final (5/17) as he allowed three earned runs on nine hits with a strikeout and a walk. Pitched Franklin Pierce away from elimination in the College World Series as he earned a complete game victory against No. 9 UC Davis, yielding three earned runs on eight hits with seven strikeouts and no walks. Earned Northeast-10 Freshman of the Week honors three times (4/6, 5/11, 6/1) and Conference Pitcher of the Week twice (5/11, 6/1).
High School: 2002 honors graduate of Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School. Played for Mike Loveless. Served as team captain as a senior and earned team's MVP award. Earned Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference Player of the Year honors his senior year as he led the Vikings to the Eastern Maine Class A title game. Also lettered in basketball and was a National Honor Society member.
Personal: Born March 25, 1984, in Norway, Maine. Son of Lori and Stephen Cummings of South Paris, Maine. Has a sister, Eliza (18), and brother, Andrew (25). Majoring in sports and leisure service management. Enjoys fishing, hunting and skiing.
