CHRIS SHANK
Modesto A's (Class A-Advanced)
Oakland Athletics

Right-handed pitcher Chris Shank became the second Franklin Pierce player to be drafted in the Major League Baseball first-year player draft when the Oakland Athletics selected him in the 23rd round (698th overall).

Upon signing his first professional contract, Shank was assigned to the A's short-season Class-A affiliate in Vancouver, B.C. Shank was used as a releif pitcher in the early part of the season and made a run at the Northwest League's record for consecutive shutout innings when he started his pro career with 28.2 scoreless innings.

After a attending the Athletic's fall developmental league, Shank has been used exclusively in a relief role and was assigned to Oakland's Midwest League affiliate in Kane County at the outset of the 2003 season. His stay with the Cougars was short as he was promoted to the A's California League affiliate in Modesto in early June.

Shank returned to spring training in early March and has been invited to make some road trips with the big league club. He has been reassigned to Modesto for outset of the 2004 season.
