NE-10 Player of the Week

Ravens senior second baseman collects first Player of the Week honor of the season
 

RINDGE, N.H. (April 10, 2006) – Franklin Pierce senior second baseman Mike Chambers (Londonderry, N.H./Londonderry) was named the Northeast-10 Conference’s Baseball Player of the Week today. The award marks the fourth time this season a Franklin Pierce player has been named Player of the Week in the NE-10.

Chambers, who earns Player of the Week honors for the first time this season, led Franklin Pierce to a 4-0 week as he hit .500 (6-for-12) with two runs scored, two doubles, a triple, two stolen bases and two RBI. He slugged .833 and posted a .600 on-base percentage for the week, while playing error-free in 21 chances at second base. Chambers was 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles and a run scored in Thursday’s 6-2 victory over Bryant University. He was a combined 3-for-5 with a triple, RBI and run scored in Saturday’s doubleheader sweep of the College of Saint Rose. His RBI triple in game two put the Ravens ahead for good in the 6-4 victory.

Chambers is fourth on the team with a .355 (33-for-93) batting average, 26 runs scored, ten doubles, a triple, five home runs and 22 RBI. He has also posted a .645 slugging percentage and .432 on-base percentage to go with ten stolen bases (11 attempts). Chambers enters the week riding a team-best six-game hitting streak, and has also totaled 11 multi-hit and five multi-RBI games this season.

Chambers enters the week within striking distance of becoming the fourth member of Franklin Pierce’s 200-hit club. He has totaled 193 career hits (.329 career hitter) to go with a school-record 54 doubles, 18 home runs (6th all-time), 28 stolen bases (10th) and 113 RBI (3rd).

            Franklin Pierce (22-7, 7-3 NE-10), ranked No. 22 in this week’s Collegiate Baseball magazine Division II poll, is back in action on Tuesday when is visits No. 30 UMass Lowell to begin a key two-game midweek series at LeLacheur Park at 7 p.m. The two teams round out the series at Dr. Arthur and Martha Pappas Field on Thursday at 3:30 p.m.
