Franklin Pierce to Resume Suspended Game at Saint Rose RINDGE,
N.H. (May 4, 2006) – Northeast-10
Conference commissioner David Brunk has determined today that the
baseball contest between Franklin Pierce and the College of Saint Rose
on April 28 was incorrectly ruled a forfeit on the field. The game has
been declared a suspended contest, thus invoking the halted game
stipulations, and will be resumed on Friday, May 5, at Saint Rose with
the Golden Knights leading 5-2 in the top of the second inning at 6
p.m.
“This decision was made
with the consultation of our assignor of umpires after a comprehensive
review of events surrounding the game and the NCAA rules that govern
the sport,” said Brunk in a statement released by the NE-10 office
this morning. “In addition, the ruling was made, in part, not to
punish Saint Rose and more importantly, it is the right and fair
resolution to an unfortunate set of circumstances.” Franklin Pierce (39-9, 24-5 NE-10) is ranked 12th in this week’s Collegiate Baseball magazine coaches poll and 15th in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) poll. The Ravens, also ranked first in both the NCAA Division II Selection Committee and NCBWA Northeast Regional rankings this week, are winners of ten-straight and 17 of 18 entering Friday night. If they can rally to victory, the Ravens can clinch at least a share of the Northeast-10 Regular Season Championship and top seed as they look to defend their NE-10 Tournament title beginning next Friday. Franklin Pierce has already clinched a first round bye. The Ravens will also be looking to reach the 40-win plateau for the first time in program history. |
