Franklin
Pierce, NJIT Split Twinbill FORT MYERS, Fla. (March 14, 2004) – Franklin Pierce, receiving votes in both the National Collegiate Baseball Writers of America (NCBWA) and Collegiate Baseball magazine Division II polls this week, split another non-conference doubleheader with New Jersey Institute of Technology at the Gene Cusic Classic tonight. NJIT used a Franklin Pierce error to post a 4-3 comeback win in game one, but the Ravens rebounded with an 8-0 victory in the nightcap.
In
game one, New Jersey Tech turned an untimely Franklin Pierce error into
two runs with two out in the bottom of the sixth to knot the score at
3-3. Junior Dan Lupo (West Milford, N.J./West Milford)
drove in the winning run in the bottom of the seventh with a bloop
single over the Ravens drawn-in infield.
Franklin Pierce redshirt freshman Matt Fisher (Athol,
Mass./Athol) was the hard-luck loser as he allowed two runs,
just one earned, on two hits with two walks and two strikeouts in two
innings of relief work. Freshman Clay Jenkins (Easton, N.H./Profile)
made his first collegiate start and allowed two runs, just one earned,
on one hit with four walks and four strikeouts over the first five-plus
innings.
Sophomore Elliott Shea (Jaffrey, N.H./Conant) led
the Franklin Pierce offense as he was 2-for-4 with an RBI and stolen
base. Classmate Mike Feetham (Quincy, Mass./North Quincy)
and freshman Kim Hart (Gorham, Maine/Gorham) were each 1-3
with an RBI.
Franklin Pierce broke a scoreless game in the fourth with two
runs as Feetham registered and RBI single and sophomore Mike
Chambers (Londonderry, N.H./Londonderry) scored on a Hart
fielder’s choice. The Ravens increased its lead to 3-0 in the fifth as
senior Eric Cavers (Otisfield, Maine/Oxford Hills) tripled
and scored on a single by Shea.

In
the nightcap, junior righthander Bryan Borowski (Clarksburg,
Mass./Drury) fired a four-hit shutout to lead Franklin Pierce to
victory. Borowski walked just two and fanned nine, including
five-straight during one stretch, in earning his first victory of the
season.
Cavers paced the Ravens offense, as he was 3-4 with a run scored
and RBI. Chambers was 2-3 with a run scored, while freshman Garrett
Olson (Norway, Maine/Oxford Hills) finished 2-3 with a run
scored and RBI.
Franklin Pierce jumped out to a 3-0 lead after an inning of play.
Olson drew a bases-loaded walk to drive in the first run before Feetham
drove a run in with a fielder’s choice and Chambers scored on a wild
pitch.
Leading 4-0, the Ravens broke the game open with four runs in the
fifth. Feetham and freshman Vinnie Pennell (Spencer, Mass./David
Prouty) each sparked the inning with RBI doubles.
