Olson
Named RINDGE,
N.H. (May 10, 2004) –
Franklin Pierce third baseman Garrett Olson (Norway, Maine/Oxford
Hills) has been named Freshman of the Week by the Northeast-10
Conference office this afternoon.
Olson led the Ravens over the weekend at the Northeast-10
Conference Baseball Championships as he hit .500 (6-for-12) with a run
scored, triple, RBI and stolen base in three games. He also slugged .667
and posted a .538 on-base percentage for the weekend. Olson accounted
for Franklin Pierce’s offense in its 2-0 win over top-seeded and No.
17-ranked Saint Anselm College on Saturday morning as he hit 2-4 with an
RBI triple before scoring the Ravens second run on a ground out. He was
3-5 in the Ravens tournament opener against UMass Lowell.
Olson, now a three-time NE-10 Freshman of the Week honoree, is
hitting .318 (56-176) with 35 runs scored, five doubles, a triple, two
home runs, 21 RBI and 11 stolen bases in his first collegiate season. He
is currently riding a five-game hitting streak to go with 18 multiple
hit games this spring. Franklin Pierce (29-22, 23-8 NE-10) narrowly missed out on its second-straight NCAA Division II Tournament bid as it was ranked fifth in the final NCAA Northeast Regional rankings. The Ravens will host the 2004 ECAC Division II Championships later this week. Teams and start times will be announced on Tuesday. |
