Hart
Named NE-10 RINDGE,
N.H. (April 12, 2004) –
Franklin Pierce first baseman Kim Hart (Gorham, Maine/Gorham) earned
Freshman of the Week honors by the Northeast-10 Conference office this
afternoon. Hart, who earns his first award of the season, is the third Franklin Pierce baseball player to earn Freshman of the Week honors this season, joining classmates Garrett Olson (Norway, Maine/Oxford Hills), who has received the award twice, and Vinny Pennell (Spencer, Mass./David Prouty). The three have now combined to earn the award in three-consecutive weeks.
Hart
hit a team-best .429 (6-14) with two doubles, two RBI and a pair of
stolen bases as Franklin Pierce took two games in a three-game series
with Bentley College last week. He also posted a .571 slugging
percentage in the three games and extended his hitting streak to six
games. Hart helped lead the Ravens to a 6-0 win over the Falcons on
Friday as he was a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate with a double, RBI and
two steals. In Saturday’s 9-8 extra inning victory, he roped a double
in the bottom of the tenth that set up the winning run.
Hart is hitting .321 (26-81) in his first collegiate season (17th
NE-10) with 11 runs scored, four doubles and 16 RBI in 26 games (25
starts) for the Ravens. He has also stolen three bases (four attempts)
and has posted a .415 on-base percentage. Hart has totaled five
multi-hit and two multi-RBI outings and his four hits at Bentley on
Friday were a team season-high. Over his six-game hitting streak, Hart
hit a team-best .391 (9-23) with two doubles, a run scored and two RBI.
Franklin Pierce (13-15, 8-3 NE-10), ranked eighth in this
week’s National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA)
Division II Northeast Region poll, posted a 7-6 victory over No.
