Borowski cops first career Pitcher of the Week award
Olson earns first Freshman of the Week honor

RINDGE, N.H. (March 15, 2004) – Two members of the Franklin Pierce baseball team were honored by the Northeast-10 Conference for their efforts over the weekend as the Ravens opened play at the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic in Fort Myers, Fla.

Junior right-hander Bryan Borowski (Clarksburg, Mass./Drury) was named the NE-10’s Pitcher of the Week, while third baseman Garrett Olson (Norway, Maine/Oxford Hills) earned Conference Freshman of the Week accolades. The awards were the first in the career for both players.

Borowski led Franklin Pierce to an 8-0 victory over New Jersey Institute of Technology on Sunday as he fired a four-hit shutout with nine strikeouts and two walks in the seven-inning contest. Borowski fanned five-straight at one point late in the contest.

Borowski improved to 1-1 on the season with the win and lowered his earned run average to 3.27 following his first career shutout. He has also totaled 13 strikeouts over his first 11 innings of the season (10.6 per nine innings).

Borowski sports a 5-1 record with a 4.39 ERA and 65 strikeouts in 55.1 career innings pitched (18 appearances, ten starts).

Olson is off to a tremendous start to his collegiate career for Franklin Pierce. He hit .476 (10-21) with eight runs scored, a home run, stolen base and seven RBI as the Ravens went 4-2 over the weekend. He was 2-for-3 with a run scored and RBI in Sunday’s 8-0 win over NJIT. Olson led the Ravens to an 18-8 victory over Wayne State (Mich.) University on Saturday by going 3-6 with three runs scored and a season-high five RBI (one shy of the program record) to go with his first career home run. He was a combined 5-7 with a double, RBI and two runs scored in Friday night’s doubleheader sweep of North Dakota State.

Olson is batting .406 (13-32) with 11 runs scored and seven RBI through his first ten collegiate contests. He has also stolen two bases and has hit safely in six-straight games.

Franklin Pierce (5-5), receiving votes in this week’s National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Division II poll and ranked fourth in the NCBWA Northeast Region poll, returns to action on Tuesday when it faces North Dakota State University for a single game at 9 a.m.
