Shank dominant on the mound, Dunn drives

PHOENIX, Ariz. (March 19, 2002)
- Franklin Pierce University
erupted for 15 runs in the first
four innings as it cruised a 15-4 win over the University
of Northern Colorado in non-conference baseball action at
Brazell Stadium on the campus of Grand Canyon University
this afternoon.
Junior righthander Chris Shank
(Westminster, Mass./Oakmont Regional) improved to
2-0 on the season as he allowed just two earned runs on
three hits with 11 strikeouts and just two walks in seven
innings of work. Both runs off Shank came by way of a pinch
hit homerun by sophomore John Garcia in the top of the seventh,
which snapped a string of 12.2 shutout innings of work for
Shank to open the season.
Dunn
totaled three RBIs for the Ravens

scored seven runs in the first
inning as it sent 11 batters to the plate in the frame.
Freshman Eric Cavers
(Otisfield, Maine/Oxford Hills) laced a two-run
double and later stole home on a double-steal. Junior Mike
Callahan (Worcester, Mass./St. Peter Marian) and
freshman Bear Dunn (Charlton, Mass./Shepherd Hill)
each chipped in RBI singles in the outburst.
The Ravens tacked on four more runs
in the second inning to break the contest wide open. Cavers
drove in junior Dan Close (Leominster, Mass./Leominster),
who singled, with an infield single. Senior Eric Burney
(Rockville, Conn./Rockville) laced a single up the
middle that scored two runs.
Dunn finished the game hitting three-for-three
with a double and three RBIs, while Cavers hit 2-4 with
a double and three RBIs. Burney was 2-4 with two RBIs and
junior Paul McAuliffe (Foxboro, Mass./Foxboro)
hit 2-5 with an RBI.
Freshman righthander John Costanzo
suffered the loss (0-3) as he was touched for 11 runs, ten
earned, on eight hits with four walks in 1.1 innings of
work. Angelo Telitz stopped the bleeding with three innings
of no-hit relief with one strikeout and two walks.
Junior Mike Carrasco totaled two
hits for Northern Colorado, while classmate Eric Aragon
had an RBI single.

(3-2) returns to action tonight
to face Grand Canyon at 9 p.m., The Ravens and Northern
Colorado (6-11) will square off again tomorrow afternoon
at 3 p.m.
