Ravens squander 9-3 lead after five innings
EASTHAM, Mass. (March 10, 2002)
- Keene State College scored nine runs in its last two
at-bats to rally for a 13-9 win over Franklin Pierce University
at the 2002 Cape Cod Classic at Nauset High School this
afternoon.
Junior shortstop Justin Hickman lined
a two-run double in the bottom of the eighth inning to put
Keene State up for good and the Owls added three more insurance
runs to post the comeback win.
Junior Travis Muckle batted three-for-four
and scored two runs to pace the Owls offense, while Hickman
finished 2-5, including the gamewinning double.
Freshman Patrick Austin earned his
first collegiate win (1-0) in relief of senior starter Andrew
Cuthbertson.
FP
senior Scott Loiseau (Worcester,
Mass./St. Peter Marian), playing in his school-record
130th consecutive game, batted 2-5, to extend his record
hitting streak to 21 games (dating back to last season),
scored two runs and added an RBI.
Junior Paul McAuliffe (Foxboro,
Mass./Foxboro) hit 2-5 with two RBIs, while senior
Eric Burney (Rockville, Conn./Rockville) was 2-3
with a double and two runs scored. Junior Al Medeiros
(New Bedford, Mass./New Bedford) hit 2-4 and scored
a run.
Junior reliever Dan Close (Leominster,
Mass./Leominster) suffered the loss (0-1) on the
mound for the Ravens.
Sophomore Dante Blancarte (Amesbury,
Mass./Amesbury) got FP
on the board with a solo
homer in the first inning. FP
scored three more times in
the third, sparked by an RBI single by McAuliffe.
Keene State got those three runs
back in the bottom of the third with three unearned runs
thanks to a trio of FP
errors.
The Ravens erupted for five runs
in the fifth inning as freshman Bear Dunn (Charlton,
Mass./Shepherd Hill) laced a two-run triple and
McAuliffe lined an RBI single. However, Keene State rallied
with ten runs over its final three at-bats, capped by the
five run eighth.
FP
(2-1) returns to action on Wednesday
afternoon when it travels to Dowling College for a non-conference
battle at 3:30 p.m.
