Saint Anselm Stuns FP
in Ninth, 6-4
Beauregard’s walk-off homerun caps Hawks
comeback win
RINDGE, N.H. (April 9, 2002)
- For the second straight day Franklin Pierce University
suffered
a devastating loss as Saint Anselm College rallied in the
ninth inning to post a 6-4 victory in Northeast-10 Conference
baseball action at Sullivan Field this afternoon.
Freshman Keith Beauregard belted
a one-out walk-off grand slam to cap a Saint Anselm College
rally that began with a leadoff blast by junior Marc Ouellet.
Franklin Pierce right-hander Matt
Weagle (Charlton, Mass./Shepherd Hill) looked to
earn his first win of the season (0-4), but saw his winless
streak stretch to five-straight decisions dating back to
last season. He was touched for six earned runs on nine
hits with nine strikeouts and two walks in the complete
game effort.
Saint Anselm senior Dan Pomeroy
earned the win in relief as he struck out three of the four
batters he faced after entering the game in the eighth inning.
After Saint Anselm took an early
1-0 lead in the fourth inning, the Ravens answered with
a single run in the sixth inning when sophomore Dante
Blancarte (Amesbury, Mass./Amesbury) laced an RBI
single.
FP
scored two runs in the seventh
as senior Scott Loiseau (Worcester, Mass./St. Peter
Marian) doubled with one out and junior Paul
McAuliffe (Foxboro, Mass./Foxboro) followed with
a homerun to give the Ravens a 3-1 advantage.
Franklin Pierce stretched the lead
to three runs in the eighth as Blancarte doubled and then
scored on a pinch-hit single by sophomore Teddy Guardiani
(Marlboro, Mass./Hudson Catholic).
Loiseau, McAuliffe and Blancarte
all registered two hits to lead the FP
offense.
FP
(11-10, 6-4 NE-10) looks to rebound
with a non-conference battle with Monadnock Region rival
Keene State College tomorrow afternoon at Crystal Field
at 3:30 p.m. Saint Anselm (8-20, 6-6 NE-10) travels to Stonehill
College on Friday at 3:30 p.m.
