Greyhounds snap 11-game slide with commanding
win
RINDGE, N.H. (April 23, 2002)
- Assumption College snapped an 11-game losing streak as
it posted a commanding 22-2 win over Franklin Pierce University
in Northeast-10 Conference baseball action at Crystal Field
this afternoon.
Senior right-hander Corey Phillips
kept the Franklin Pierce offense at bay, while Assumption
banged out 24 hits to roll to the victory. Phillips (3-4)
allowed just two earned runs on six hits with a career-high
15 strikeouts and two walks in seven innings of work.
Sophomore Tim Caouette hit five-for-six
with a double, a stolen base, two runs scored and four RBIs
to lead the Greyhounds.
Freshman Chris Colabello was 3-5
with a homerun, three runs scored and four RBIs, while classmate
Andy Morano was a perfect 4-4 with five runs scored and
two RBIs. Senior Pat Devine finished 4-5 with three runs
scored and three RBIs.
Assumption jumped out to a 6-0 lead
after two innings and broke the game open with four in the
fifth to take a 10-0 lead. Junior John Costello laced a
two-run single to plate a pair of unearned runs in the first.
In the second, Bertrand belted an
RBI double and Caouette added a run-scoring single to spark
the inning.
Morano sparked the four-run fifth
with a two-run single and sophomore Steve Muscatello added
an RBI double.

chipped into the lead with a
pair in the sixth inning. Sophomore Dante Blancarte
(Amesbury, Mass./Amesbury) led off the frame with
a double and scored on an RBI double from freshman Eric
Cavers (Otisfield, Maine/Oxford Hills). Mike Callahan
(Worcester, Mass./St. Peter Marian) sandwiched a single
between the two doubles and scored the Ravens final run
on a wild pitch.
Cavers and Blancarte each hit 2-3
for Franklin Pierce with a double apiece.
Junior Dan Close (Leominster,
Mass./Leominster) suffered the loss (1-2) as he
was touched for six runs, three earned, on six hits with
two strikeouts and two walks in 1.1 innings of work.

(19-15, 12-9 NE-10) and Assumption
(8-24, 5-17 NE-10) battle again tomorrow in Worcester, Mass.,
at 3:30 p.m.
