Today, Hughes netted a hat trick to lead Ireland to the top of the Group A standings with a 3-0 victory over host Turkey. She opened the scoring in the 60th minute, and then added insurance markers in the 90th and 93rd minutes. Ireland now have four points with one pool match remaining on Sunday against New Zealand at 11 a.m. (EDT). Ireland (1-0-1) leads both Turkey and New Zealand by a single point, with Chinese Taipei at the bottom of the group with a single point.

Hislop, who has also started both of Ireland’s matches so far, starred in her side’s 3-3 opening round draw with Chinese Taipei on Wednesday with two goals. She netted equalizers in both the 30th and 66th minutes for Ireland, but after Taipei scored in the 67th, Ireland needed an 83rd minute marker to salvage the single point.

Sadler
did not see any action in Great Britain’s 96-91 opening round loss
to Lithuania today. They are back in action tomorrow against
Australia at 12:15 p.m. (EDT).
The University Games, held every two years, are open to athletes between the ages of 18 and 27 who are still studying or have graduated within 12 months of the event.
