The Alumni
Scholarship Committee Announces 2006 Award Recipients
The alumni association scholarship committee reviewed multiple
applications for the 2006-2007 Alumni Association Scholarship
for the Rindge Campus. After extensive interviewing, the
committee selected two outstanding students for their
participation in the community, contributions to the advancement
of student life and outstanding academic excellence.
Meet the 2006 Award Recipients

Joshua
Lupinek
Joshua is a management major planning to graduate
with the class of 2009. He has been an active
participant in the Pierce community through the varsity
hockey and golf teams in addition to his work with the
New England Center for Civic Life. An honors program
student, his work ethic complements his talents. Joshua
recognizes himself as an individual in the community
and, for that, we recognize him for his leadership and
intellect. |

Ashley
Steele
Ashley is a mass communication student, concentrating in
media studies, and a member of the class of 2007. She
has contributed to the College through her involvement
with Student Government, the Leadership Planning
Committee- holding the position of Orientation
Coordinator, currently a Head Peer Advisor and as a
student programming intern. For these reasons, we
recognize Ashley as a valuable leader inside and outside
the classroom and as a contributor to the Franklin
Pierce community. |
The 2005 Award Recipients

Matthew Leite
Matt is a Mass Communications major and a member of the
Class of 2007. He has contributed to the College through
the TV club and the soccer team. His community service
includes participation in the Rindge Haunted House and
volunteering at a soup kitchen. Most notably, Matt has
been an active member in Brothers Reaching Out (B.R.O.)
and has been elected President for the 2005-2006 year. For
these reasons, we recognize Matt as a valuable leader in
and contributor to the Franklin Pierce community. |

Alexis Ozimek
Alexis is a member of the Class of 2006 majoring in
Psychology. She has been an active member of the Pierce
community through the crew team and Pierce Pals, as well
serving as a Peer Advisor. Alexis is clearly an active
member of the community and, for that, we recognize her
for her leadership, community-minded spirit, and positive
contribution. |

Matthew Naffah
Matt is an Advertising major, also in the class of 2005.
He has contributed to the College through the Pierce Media
Group, Small Business Advisory Group, Student Government,
and the Graphic Design Club. It was clear through
Matthew’s interview with the committee that he is
dedicated to furthering the cause of Franklin Pierce and
to working with his peers to do so. For these reasons, we
recognize Matthew as a valuable leader in and contributor
to the Franklin Pierce community. |

Jillian Blackey
Jillian is a member of the class of 2005 majoring in
Marketing. She has been an active member of the Pierce
community through the Pierce Media Group, Small Business
Advisory Group, Pierce Arrow, Student Government, and as a
tutor. Jillian is clearly an active member of the
community and, for that, we recognize her for her
leadership and contribution. |

What is the Alumni Association?
The purpose of the Alumni Association is to “promote the general
welfare of Franklin Pierce College; to develop an enduring
interest in all the affairs of the College throughout its
alumni, undergraduate, former students and friends; and to
develop an organization, which shall be the means of creating
and maintaining the close association of Franklin Pierce men and
women.” ^
Why Do We Award Scholarships?
We believe that it is necessary, as alumni devoted to the
efforts of the College, to be supportive of the students who
contribute to the Franklin Pierce community. Thus, we award
scholarships in an effort to:
1) Recognize students who are leaders.
2) Recognize students who demonstrate a commitment to their
community.
3) Commend students who have demonstrated academic excellence.
4) Help in lessening the financial burden for students who
demonstrate need. ^
What Scholarships Are Available?
The Alumni Association awards two (2) scholarships of $2500
each, contributing $1250 over two (2) semesters.
These scholarships are awarded to students who meet the
following criteria:
1) Must be a sophomore, junior, or senior in the academic year
of 2004-2005
2) Demonstrates qualities of leadership and citizenship
3) Demonstrates financial need
4) Must be in good academic and disciplinary standing ^
The Decision Process
Who is involved?
Members of the scholarship committee volunteer to
review the scholarship applications. The committee is
comprised of members and non-members of the board of directors.
The committee is chaired by the vice president for academics of
the board of directors. Each member of the committee reviews
each of the applications on his own and submits his or her votes
to the Committee chairperson. ^
What are we looking for?
The Scholarship Committee is looking for students who best
exemplify the Franklin Pierce University
vision. This includes your
role as an “Individual in the Community,” and your understanding
of “intellect and character” and “leader of conscience” in the
context of your life at Franklin Pierce. ^
