A.L.A.NA.
What is A.L.A.NA.?
A.L.A.NA. “stands for African American, Latino/Latina, Asian, and
Native American. It was developed to unite its members for the
greater good of all, to inspire cultural awareness, and destroy the
void among students of different racial backgrounds.”
(Dr. Donald Brown, the Director of Minority Student Programs at
Boston College)
Goals of the A.L.A.NA. Program
Goals of the program include:
• Providing support services and programs for A.L.A.NA. students
• Empowering A.L.A.NA. students to take ownership of their education
• Encouraging A.L.A.NA. students to take advantage of leadership
opportunities
A.L.A.NA. Center
The purpose of the A.L.A.NA. Center is to provide a physical space
for students, faculty, and staff to use for public/educational
functions, meetings, and social gatherings. Most importantly the
A.L.A.NA. Center is a place where Multiculturalism is front and
center. The A.L.A.NA. Center is a space where everyone can feel
welcomed and appreciated and through a sense of community, encourage
and educate others about the significance and contributions of
everyone, regardless of heritage.
Pre-Orientation Program
Here’s a sampling of what you can experience during pre-orientation:
• Take a tour of our campus with current students.
• Learn about financial aid and scholarships information.
• Learn how to become a successful student
• Meet Alumni
• Participate in on campus activities as well as off campus
activities.
• Live on campus for 3 days
Mentoring
The A.L.A.NA. Mentoring Program is intended to create a supportive
network between first year students and upper-class students at
Franklin Pierce University. The purpose of this program is to foster
mentoring relationships which benefit A.L.A.NA. through ongoing
guidance, companionship, and encouragement. Mentors and
undergraduate students are paired and together identify academic
and/or personal goals for the upcoming year. The A.L.A.NA. program
also welcomes participants to attend social and educational group
gatherings.
 Getting involved on and off
campus is a great way to feel a sense of fulfillment and
pride. There are many different clubs and organizations on
campus that will interest you. All you have to do is want to
be there...and be there!
I was involved in a club on campus called SISTUHS from the
very first day I stepped on campus, and it changed my life
forever. I later became president, creating a positive place
for women of all colors and backgrounds to celebrate our
differences as well as embrace each other.
Always remember that the sky is NOT the limit and you can do
anything you put your mind to. All it takes is time, passion
and dedication. Always surround yourself with people who
will positively influence you to push yourself beyond limits
that you couldn’t have imagined.”
