Theatre and Dance

Dance
Design/Technical

The Theatre and Dance Department offers three concentrations in the major, and minors in theater and in dance. The major concentrations are: Dance, Performance/Directing, and Design/Technical.

The aim of the Department is to enhance the student’s capacity for imaginative and creative thought and action. Majors and minors, from freshmen through seniors, participate actively in the process of performing, crafting and producing works of theatre and dance with the goal of achieving a substantial understanding of this collaborative artistic process.

To fully understand the collaborative process, students are required to enroll in a theatre core of seven courses: one introductory course, one history course, two performance courses and two design/technical courses. The seventh is a capstone course in the student’s chosen concentration. The remainder of the theater courses will be requirements and elective courses from the students chosen concentration. It is possible to graduate with a degree in more than one concentration. Please refer to the catalogue for a complete listing of Theatre/Dance requirements, electives, and a suggested course sequence.

Richard SilvestroRichard Silvestro has been a wonderful inspiration and educator over my four years here at Franklin Pierce College. Not only has he taught me a lot about the field in and out of class; but also he has taught me about myself and challenges me every day to succeed. Each semester, Richard gave me different projects and problems to work on and solve. He has many wonderful skills that many take advantage of; he is able to give both scientific and layman’s explanations to his students. He is dedicated to teaching his students; he will be there for them until they understand and comprehend the subject matter. Along with being a great educator, Richard has also been a great friend and role model. He has always been there when life throws you a curve and is always looking out for the well being of others.”
