The Study Abroad Programs

See the World and Make a Difference.

As reflected in its mission of preparing students for active roles in a democratic society, Franklin Pierce supports learning in settings outside of the classroom and in international programs of study. Study abroad lets you gain firsthand, in-depth knowledge of another culture, see the world from a new perspective, and develop intercultural skills that will help you succeed in today's world.

The creation of the Global Citizenship Certificate program and development of Franklin Pierce’s own programs in Vienna, Austria are significant additions to our curriculum that offer students the chance to engage in studies with a global focus. In addition to its own programs abroad, Franklin Pierce has formed affiliations with a variety of institutions that allow students from any academic discipline to fulfill their program requirements while studying at an affiliated university or program abroad.  Over the past several years, students have taken part in programs in Vienna, Italy, Costa Rica, Australia, New Zealand, France, Spain, England and Ireland.

All study abroad programs are open to students in good standing and to those who meet the GPA and other requirements of each specific program. Students should discuss planning for a study abroad program with their academic advisor and the Director of Off-Campus/International educational programs:  Stella van Renesse-Walling 603/899-4147 or  Stella@franklinpierce.edu

The WALK IN EUROPE - visit the Walk Website
The Walk in Europe is a project unique to Franklin Pierce and has been part of the curriculum since 1969. Typically, 25-40 students participate in the semester-long project, a long-distance walk through several European countries. The result is an experience in practical learning that challenges students on many levels and demands their best ideas, strengths and talents. The Walk is structured to facilitate engagement with Europeans and their cultures, among group members, and with the land itself. But perhaps the most significant aspect of the Walk is that it grants time for serious reflection while engaged in one of the healthiest of activities.
